Ilocos Norte is gearing up towards a sustainable mobility revolution with the inauguration and energization of its first electric vehicle (EV) charging station at the Agua Grande Mini Hydro Plant in Barangay Pancian here.
In his short speech during a simple program attended by representatives of the Ayala Corporation’s ACMobility and the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC), Governor Matthew Joseph Manotoc lauded the unified commitment of both public and private stakeholders to innovation, sustainability and improved quality of life for Filipinos.
“This is a worthy and noble partnership. We in the government must be ready for new vehicles that are eco-friendly,” Manotoc said, as he expressed hope that the charging station will entice more tourists with EVs to visit Ilocos Norte.
INEC acting general manager Cipriano Martinez III said the establishment of the EV charging station is in support to the provincial government’s green energy program.
INEC has partnered with ACMobility to have a 120-kilowatt EV charger that can charge two vehicles at the same time for just a period of 45 minutes.
“INEC provided the space and transformer needed and ACMobility set up the fast charge with direct connection to the grid,” Martinez said.
To optimize usability of the charging hub, Yvonne Palomar-Castro, Regulatory, Policy and Government Affairs officer of ACMobility, said they partnered with Evro to make charging simple and easy.
Evro is an e-mobility service provider that helps a user find nearby charging stations, displays charger availability and compatibility, and allows cashless payment.
Castro said the Pagudpud EV charging hub is an important link to the EV spine as they continue to rollout more EV charging hubs across the country.
The nearest EV charging hub to Pagudpud is located in La Union.
