Solidarity Statement for Displaced Victims of the Taal Volcano Eruption

The eruption of the Taal Volcano last January 12, 2019, has forced residents from the nearby towns to flee their homes; thousands are still displaced and livestocks are still deeply endangered. In line with this, Asia Pacific Energy Solutions is one with the nation in expressing its deepest sympathies to the victims of the eruption.

A tropical country bordering the Pacific Ocean and a home to 24 active volcanoes, the Philippines is no stranger to devastating calamities of extreme magnitude. These calamities have tested the strength and the tenacity of the Filipino people from time and again. As such, Filipinos have been internationally recognized for our resilience in overcoming adversities and calamities and even sneaking in a little touch of humor. Despite this resiliency, we must never forget that precautionary measures are the most effective tools for surviving natural disasters.

Asia Pacific Energy Solutions would also like to commend government agencies and the Local Government Units for preemptively evacuating all the residents in the nearby towns. The warnings issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology to Southern Luzon and Metro Manila have deeply contributed in minimizing the repercussions of the eruption. It has greatly helped with evacuating the residents on time, as well as providing them shelter where food and other necessities have been so generously provided by the government, Non-Governmental Organizations, private individuals, and other actors.

We would also like to remind everyone to stay vigilant as there could still be further activity from the volcano. (PHIVOLCS, Taal Volcano Bulletin 22 January 2020) The future of the Filipino people relies heavily on how we handle this matter, which is why we encourage the residents of the nearby towns to stay in the evacuation areas.

This we know is only a test of nature and we are sure that we will come out of this stronger as a people. We will rise above the ashes.
